- Edith Sitwell
Hello fellow Bluebell Poetry readers!
How is your winter coming along? Frosty and cold? Warm and sunny? No matter what the weather I think we can all agree on the above quote and today we will learn a bit more about its author, Edith Sitwell.
Born in 1867 to parents with whom she had a tumultuous relationship,Sitwell moved to London and began writing in earnest upon adult hood.
Her poetry showed considerable technical skill sevearl of them were later encased with music from noted composers of her time.
She became a proponent and supporter of innovative trends in English poetry and opposed what she considered the conventionality of many contemporary backward-looking poets. Her flat became a meeting place for young writers whom she wished to befriend and help: these later included Dylan Thomas
She was as well known for her formidable personality, Elizabethan dress, and eccentric opinions as for her work.
While she rebelled against much of the poetry writing style of her time, she did not see herself as a leader or a rebel saying instead " I am no eccentric. It's just that I am more alive than most people."

A remarkable poet, visionary and woman, speaking from the past in a very current voice.
