Meet Our Writers Week 8: Sarah, Cooking Book Review Official

Tell us about yourself

Well, I live in Dublin with my husband Paul and 2 children (Dan 7 and August 3) I run an organic fruit and vegetable delivery service called Home Organics which I set up about 8 years ago. My interest in food and cooking began when I moved to Barcelona after finishing university in 1992. As a vegetarian I couldn't find anything to eat so I start cooking at home, organising big dinner parties... If I'm honest I'd have to say that greed was probably what motivated me - I can't live without good food. Eventually I left my day job (running a language school) and started cheffing. Because of my time in Spain my cooking is quite Mediterranean although other travel in Europe and Asia has had an influence. Apart from family life, running my business and blogging, I read a lot and enjoy all kinds of music.

Tell me about your blog(s), name(s), what does it mean to you?

My blog is called Cook with Home Organics (although this will be changing soon as will the look and feel of the blog so stay tuned for that!) I initially started it as a service to my fruit and vegetable customers who often asked me for ideas and inspiration about how to cook certain items they got from their weekly Home Organics delivery. Over time, the readership has widened and I now have followers and readers from all over the world. My blog keeps me cooking new dishes (no mean feat given how hectic life is these days!), as well as documenting how I feed myself, my family and friends using healthy locally sourced ingredients.

When have you started blogging?

I started back in late 2008

What's the theme(s) of your blog(s)? What do you write most? poetry, book review or cooking recopies short stories?

I cook with the food I sell which is locally sourced and seasonal. I firmly believe that this kind of food is the future and hope that my writing encourages people to cook with what's around them and support local farming.

What are the inspirations of your writing?

I plan to continue blogging and eventually to publish a cookbook

Does music impact your writing?

Music impacts my life! I tend to concentrate a lot on whatever I do so I don't mix music and writing but often enjoy cooking with music

Do you have a favorite book or author?

Foodwise, I'd probably say Nigel Slater but really there are so many food writers I love. Otherwise, I love Don de Lillo, Flannery O'Connor, Colm Toibin, John Banville, Siri Hustvedt...

Do you have a favorite quote?

"I'll be with you in a squeezing of a lemon" Elizabeth David

Any tips for those who started blogging ..

Just do it!

What's your writing plans?

Keep cooking, keep writing and most importantly keep eating!!!!

PS: I love Sarah's Cooking bookreview posts, it is a great pleasure to get to know more about here...Hope that you enjoy her responses.

Music goes well with just about everything. And let's face it we all gotta eat. You've got a good formula.
