Revolution 2020
by Chetan Bhagat
After the highly humorous and successful Two States, this is one more book from Chetan Bhagat which can make you laugh till you crack and yet make you cry from the depths of heart.
Once upon a time, in small-town India, there lived two intelligent boys.
One wanted to use his intelligence to make money.
One wanted to use his intelligence to create a revolution.
The problem was, they both loved the same girl.
Cool lines to introduce the book right? Well, I do feel the same. The plot was very simple. Mr. Gopal Mishra who works hard but hand in hand with a corrupt politician and Mr. Raghav Kashyap who is highly intellectual, works for his dreams and runs behind his passion (here journalism) irrespective of anything else fight over their classmate Aarti Pratap Pradhan.
The plot line is explained well here check out. In simple words, Mr. Mishra builds a college after two unsuccessful attempts at Engineering entrance test. Mr. Kashyap an engineer by qualification, a journalist by profession messes up with Mr. Mishra (due to politics behind the college construction) and loses his girl (read Aarti) and job too. The story revolves around how Mr. Mishra turns into good guy, breaks with Ms. Aarti (so as to reunite her with mr. Kashyap) and stays a bachelor and around how revolution 2020 the newspaper of Mr. Raghav starts gains fame and goes bankrupt!!
What do I like in the book? The story? Nah!! I love the narration, the use of humor, the use of characters to which every college student (at-least Indian student) can co-relate. Depiction of the confusions Mr. Mishra has when it comes to girls (just like every teenage boy), the way girls are (confusing, silly, beautiful, lovable..), the struggle of every human to choose between profession and passion, the problems when you face defeat, the loneliness when you have victory but no dear one to share, the Indian life, the power of politicians here, the way Indian relations work and all such are too good.
Well, I was literraly in tears when Mr. Mishra breaks up with Aarthi, after loving her tenaciously. Imagine he breaks up, only because he feels Mr. Kashyap (the honest, the intelligent, the man running behind passion, the wise .. blah blah) is right for Ms. Aarthi. I couldn't stop reading the book. It is good!! I do recommend the to everyone though I would have preferred a happy ending for Mr. Mishra!!
